The Front Page

The authors' expert plotting and rapid-fire, streetwise dialogue delighted audiences and made their play an instant classic. Hecht and MacArthur strongly influenced many other American comic writers, especially in Hollywood. In the 1970s, film producer Dore Schary told film historian David Bordwell that The Front Page influenced studio writers and directors in the 1930s.[3] The play popularized the image of American journalists as fast-talking, wisecracking "hard-boiled" types, excessively fond of alcohol and hard living in general, who would go to any lengths to get a story on the front page of their newspapers.[4]

A title page is required for all APA Style papers. There are both student and professional versions of the title page. Students should use the student version of the title page unless their instructor or institution has requested they use the professional version. APA provides a student title page guide (PDF, 199KB) to assist students in creating their title pages.

The student title page includes the paper title, author names (the byline), author affiliation, course number and name for which the paper is being submitted, instructor name, assignment due date, and page number, as shown in this example.

Place the title three to four lines down from the top of the title page. Center it and type it in bold font. Capitalize major words of the title. Place the main title and any subtitle on separate double-spaced lines if desired. There is no maximum length for titles; however, keep titles focused and include key terms.

For 170 years, The Times has been the eyes and ears of the world, providing breaking news, on-the-scene coverage and incisive journalism to the public. Just as The Times's fast-paced, moment-to-moment reporting has set the newspaper in a class of its own, its front pages have become legendary in their own right.

Times front pages let you travel back to any unforgettable date from 1851 to the present. Read tales from the front lines of the Civil War; dive into the harrowing tale of the sinking of the Titanic; join Lucky Lindbergh on his daring flight across the Atlantic; get wrapped up in the excitement of the V-E Day celebration; or relive the standoff in the Cuban missile crisis. These and more than 57,500 other storied front pages are available from The Times archive.

Framed reprints may vary in width to reflect page proportions that changed from wide (pre-1954) to more narrow from 1997 to the present. Pages reflect the final New York Late Edition only. Because this personalized item is custom-made for you, all sales are final and this product cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged.

The front page test requires asking yourself: How would I feel if the course of action I am considering were reported on the front page of the local newspaper or blog? For more information, see piece in box at right.

Diamond said their film version would restore Chicago for the first time to its rightful status as the locale of the action. "People never notice it," he said, "but in the first two film versions of 'The Front Page,' the city was never ever named. In this version, we're restoring the original references to the Sheriff of Cook County, the Mayor of Chicago, the newspapers, and so on. And there won't be any phony newspaper titles like the Chicago Globe. We're using all the real names The Daily News, the Tribune and the real frontpage makeups."

Especially the dialog and the pacing, Jack Lemmon was explaining a few minutes later, having been torn from both the movie's poker game and a reallife backstage poker game. "When I talk about rapidfire dialog, what do I mean?" Lemmon asked. "I'll tell you what I mean. With the average page of screenplay dialog, you figure on a rule of thumb of one minute per page. The other day we had two pages of dialog that took 45 seconds. That's fast.

"I saw Otto directing himself once," Wilder said. "First there was a scene with another actor. Otto shot it 27 times until it satisfied him. The other actor was in collapse. Then it was time for Otto's own scene. Otto stood in front of the camera. He said 'Camera! Action!' Then he said his line. Then he said, 'Cut. Print. Excellent!' Then he turned to the actor and said, 'You see how easy?' I think the guy could have committed murder...."

A posts page (also known as a blog page) can be significant for your website, even if blogging is not your primary goal. A separate section on your website to frequently publish new content can benefit your search ranking. This is because search engines favor consistently updated sites with fresh content.

The summary is also used as the HTML metadata description in some themes, for the front page of the site. This is not generally seen by users, but can be useful for search engines that index the page.

The centre of the front page can display any combination of the following: news items, a list of courses, a list of enrolled courses, a list of course categories, a list of categories and courses, a course search box or none. The order is determined by a combination box.

It is possible to create one setting for anyone who gets to the front page without logging in to the Moodle site, and another look for only those who have logged into the Moodle site. There are two combination boxes.

This adds a topic section to the centre-top of the front page. When editing is turned on, resources and/or activities can be added to the topic section using the dropdown menus, in the same way as on a course page.

The default front page role enables logged-in users to participate in front page activities. See 'How do I enable logged-in users to participate in front page activities?' in Front page FAQ for more details. It is recommended that it is set to 'Authenticated user on frontpage'. It can also be set to Student. It should not be set to Guest.

As in a course, you can assign users roles just in the context of this page. Note this is different from the default Authenticated User on Front Page role found in front page settings. As a security issue, usually only admins can modify the front page, other users do not.

It is possible to upload users as students in the front page with a csv file using the site short name as 'course1' field, student in 'role1' field (and, if needed, chosen group name in 'group1' field.)

A Moodle site's front page can be reconfigured from the default standard to give it a different look and or change how it functions. Depending upon the changes, this can be a simple or a more complex process. See Front page FAQ for some ideas on customising your front page.

This is a major decision, what is it you want in the centre of your front page? You can have a list of categories, a list of categories and courses, or neither, a label with a table full of images works just as well. The issue is always the same, actually, what looks good.

The standard Moodle page format of Blocks on the left and blocks on the right is not always appropriate or considered pretty. The site administrator can change this basic format by simply deleting or hiding blocks that can be seen by users. Navigation can be placed on the dock.

The Administrator decides which blocks should appear on the front page and moves all of them to the left or right side. This format allows you to decide what you want in the centre, and where you want the blocks, left or right.

If you're using a theme such as Clean or More you can then do some cool things with Bootstrap layout elements, as described in the thread LOOK & LEARN: How to add marketing spots as a front page topic.

This article explains how WordPress determines which template file(s) to use on individual pages. If you want to customize an existing WordPress theme it will help you decide which template file needs to be edited.

WordPress uses the query string to decide which template or set of templates should be used to display the page. The query string is information that is contained in the link to each part of your website.

The Course Home Page is the first view your students will see when they enter your course. For the Course Home Page, you can customize a page from your course Pages and have it display as the Course Home Page.

If you want to change the Course Home Page to a custom page, you must first set the page as the Front Page. The Front Page is a designation that shows Canvas which page can be used for the Course Home Page. Use this page to show a welcome message, links, images, or other information for students.

To remove the Front Page, locate the page labeled with a gray Front Page tag [1]. Click the Options icon [2] and select the Remove as Front Page option [3].

A stage full of wisecracking newspaper reporters and double-talking politicians filled the Beaumont for Hecht and MacArthur's classic, THE FRONT PAGE. This perfectly-hewn comedy hasn't been a favorite among theater audiences for so many years for nothing! It takes place in Chicago in the 1920s, but the story could be right off today's front page.

Reddit is not "the front page of the Internet," as its slogan proclaims. The site is a massive generator of web traffic but, in demographic terms, Reddit might more aptly be called the front page of a very specific Internet, a mostly young and mostly male Internet.

It would be impossible to deny some sort of connection between the demographics of Reddit's narrow but vocal online user base and the tumultuousness of Pao's tenure. When Pao and her team removed several of Reddit's most vile subreddits (such as /r/fatpeoplehate) and fired popular staffer Victoria Taylor, the Reddit community retaliated with a level of vitriol that was clearly gendered in its expression. Particularly disgusting memes of Pao often made their way to the Reddit homepage. 041b061a72
